JOINING HERTFORD & DISTRICT U3A
Hertford & District u3a was founded in 1992 and has over 1500 members and over 80 interest groups. We are a self-help organisation so costs are minimal because our activities are organised by our members, who share their skills and expertise. We adhere to the u3a Movement's Principles, which are available on the u3a website. To learn more, please click on the following link. Joining the u3a is a good way to meet people and to make new friends.
Our groups cater for a wide range of interests and ability levels. New ones are being formed all the time and we are always keen to hear about new ideas for groups. You can join one group or as many as you wish. Please note some groups have waiting lists. We hope you will join us and get involved – everyone has something to offer!
Whilst there is no upper or lower age limit, a typical member is no longer in full time work. We are a volunteer-led organisation where everyone is encouraged to help in any way they can. Our parent organisation is the national charity known as the Third Age Trust, which oversees the activities of over 1,000 u3as like ours throughout the UK.
Membership of our u3a enables you to:
- enrol in one or more of our interest and study groups
- come to our monthly speaker meetings
- attend our coffee mornings to make friends, have a cup of coffee and join friendly conversation
- enjoy day excursions, usually with guided tours, to places of interest
- join in theatre and concert trips with other u3a members
- receive a regular monthly newsletter
- meet like-minded people and make new friends
- take part in study days on a variety of topics
The standard annual subscription is £15 and entitles members to enjoy numerous benefits, including over 100 interest groups, many free events and a regular monthly newsletter by email. The subscription is for membership of Hertford & District u3a only and does not extend to other u3as. Subscriptions are renewable by Standing Order on 1st January each year. The first membership subscriptions are half price until December if you join after 1st July.
MEMBERSHIP APPLICATION
Membership application can be made by completing the online form on the Joining Form menu tab. If you are not able to complete the online form you can download a copy of the application form HERE or request a form from the Membership Secretary at
You will have the option to pay by bank transfer or by cheque. As our u3a has over 1500 members, membership applicants will also need to set up a standing order for the annual subscription renewal. Please CLICK HERE for more information on how to set up your standing order. Should you decide not to renew in the following year, you will need to cancel the Standing Order with your bank.
WELCOME MEETING
New members will be invited by our New Members Co-ordinator, Pat, to a welcome meeting soon after joining. These take place throughout the year and offer an opportunity to meet other new members, share interests and ideas, learn more about groups and events and ask questions of the committee members present. We look forward to meeting you.
